German Medicines Manufacturers' Association (BAH) at the Round Table "Health Care Industry" with Minister of Economics, Mr. Habeck

24.11.2022

The Federal Minister for Economics and Climate Protection Robert Habeck opened the "Round Table Healthcare Industry" today along with top representatives of the industrial healthcare industry and his Parliamentary State Secretary Franziska Brantner. The focus of this dialog is a joint exchange on how to strengthen the competitiveness of companies, ensure the resilience, financial viability and sustainability of healthcare in Germany and Europe, improving the conditions for business location in Germany and enhancing the visibility of the industrial healthcare industry as a whole.

During his welcoming speech, Robert Habeck emphasized the value of the industrial health sector as a key component of our national economy. "It is the engine for innovation, growth and employment. In a joint exchange, the Healthcare Industry Round Table is intended to make a contribution to improving site factors and increasing the international competitiveness of companies in order to secure high-quality healthcare."

Dr. Katja Pütter-Ammer, Member of the Board and Managing Director of MEDICE, took part in the dialog format on behalf of the BAH: "It is important to us to bring manufacturers' interests in both over-the-counter and prescription medicines into this dialog format and to develop specific proposals jointly with policymakers on how Germany can be strengthened as a pharmaceutical location. This requires, among other things, the elimination of unnecessary administrative requirements and the simplification of approval procedures. Furthermore, there must be a way to adjust the prices of price-regulated pharmaceuticals given the cost explosions in the supply and energy sectors."

The Healthcare Industry Round Table is scheduled to last for the entire legislative period. Besides improving the site conditions for research, development and production, the agenda through summer 2023 also includes strengthening resilient supply chains, protecting intellectual property as a prerequisite for innovation, and access to and use of healthcare data. There will now be individual working group meetings on this subject, in which the BAH will participate.

In addition to the German Medicines Manufacturers' Association (BAH), the Round Table Health Care Industry includes the Federation of German Industries (BDI), BIO Deutschland e.V., the German Pharmaceutical Industry Association (BPI), the German Health IT Association (bvitg), the German Medical Technology Association (BVMed) e. V., Pro Generika e.V., Spectaris - German Industry Association for Optics, Photonics, Analytical and Medical Technology e. V., the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (vfa), the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), the German Diagnostics Industry Association (VDGH), and the German Electrical and Digital Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI).
