INSECT TIME? SOVENTOL TIME - Versatile also for insect bites or stings

04.07.2022

Not all insects are the same, and the times at which we encounter one or the other or the reasons why we are "attacked" by them sometimes differ greatly. Mosquitoes, sandflies and ticks bite to suck blood. Black flies or grass mites, on the other hand, bite to get at the blood. However, the skin reactions are similar: redness, swelling and sometimes very intense itching. Wasps and bees, on the other hand, use the sting primarily for defence. The stinging hairs of the oak processionary moth also contain the nettle toxin thaumetopoein, which is a defence mechanism against predators. It causes allergic (skin) reactions on contact.

Insect bites - What to do?

Often you can reduce the risk of a sting, bite or contact in advance with simple measures. Small beneficial insects such as bees or wasps, for example, should not feel threatened. For "bloodsuckers", long clothing is a practical tip, but repellents can also be used to ward off mosquitoes or ticks. If you want to avoid unpleasant-smelling chemical preparations, Soventol® PROTECT is an alternative based on a natural ingredient from the oil of the lemon eucalyptus tree. If an insect bite has occurred, Soventol® gel with the antihistamine bamipine can interrupt the inflammatory cascade induced by the neurotransmitter histamine and thus counteract redness, swelling and above all itching.

Soventol® Cremogel: When things have to happen fast

Every now and then, insect bites or stings can also become inflamed. Or allergic skin reactions may occur, as in the case of contact with the stinging hairs of the caterpillar processionary moth. Symptoms such as redness, swelling or itching are then often particularly pronounced. This is where a topical glucocorticoid with its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effect is needed. In self-medication, for example, Soventol® Hydrocortisone Acetate 0.5% Cremogel with its innovative galenics is available. The interaction of the hydrophilic Cremogel base and the hydrophobic active ingredient hydrocortisone acetate enables a particularly rapid flood of active ingredients. In addition, the quasi-emulsion with its incorporated water droplets offers a unique cooling effect when applied, which supports immediate itch relief.
